Jersey Village is a small city with a big pool story. Most of its homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s on what was once a Jersey dairy ranch, and many came with a backyard pool that is now forty-plus years old.

White Oak Bayou runs through the middle of it, and the city has spent years on flood projects after repeated floods. For us that adds up to replaster, equipment and leak work, with an eye on the weather.
The original Jersey Village neighbourhoods and Jersey Meadow are full of pools from the city’s building boom, many with original shells and several generations of repairs. Plaster is often rough or patched, plumbing has aged, and equipment pads carry a mix of old and new parts. Wortham Villages and Hearthstone have somewhat newer pools. Homes near White Oak Bayou have been through several floods, and some pools were affected more than once.

Local questions
Something specific to your pool? Call (832) 528-4979 — we would rather look at it than guess.
Usually, yes. Most pools from the 1970s and 1980s have concrete shells that are still sound. What has worn out is the plaster, tile, coping, plumbing and equipment. We look at the shell first and tell you honestly whether it is worth investing in; most of the time it is.
Floodwater leaves silt and contaminants in the pool and can submerge the equipment pad. After a flood, the pump and motor, heater and any electrical components need checking before restarting, and the water needs clearing. If your pool has flooded more than once, raising or protecting the pad may be worth discussing.
Forty years of clay-soil movement, and plumbing materials and fittings that were standard in the 1970s, mean underground lines and fittings eventually fail. Patched plaster and old light niches add more places for water to escape. A bucket test tells you whether the loss is more than evaporation.
