What is included

What is included in our pool pump and filter replacement

The pump is the one piece of pool equipment that runs every day of the year, and in Houston it runs long hours. An old single-speed pump running eight hours a day through a summer is one of the larger electricity loads in many North Houston homes. When a pump or filter reaches the end of its life, replacing it is a chance to fix that: a correctly sized variable-speed pump moves the same water for a fraction of the power, and a filter matched to the pool and its tree cover spends less time clogged. We replace them, and we tell you when a repair would do instead.

Failing pumps and filters replaced, including variable-speed upgrades that cut running costs.

  • Variable-speed pumps

Run slow and quiet for most of the day, fast only when needed for vacuuming or a spa. The savings are largest on exactly the long Houston run times.

  • Correct sizing

Bigger is not better. An oversized pump wastes power and wears filters; we size to the pool, plumbing and features.

  • Cartridge, sand and DE filters

Each has trade-offs in water clarity, maintenance and cost. We match the filter to how the pool is used and how many trees drop into it.

  • Plumbing at the pad

New unions and valves fitted where the old plumbing is tired, so the new equipment is not let down by old joints.

  • Automation-ready

Pumps programmed with sensible schedules, and linked to your controller where you have one.

  • Robotic cleaners

Supplied and set up for owners who want the floor kept clean between service visits.

Why people call us

Signs you need pool pump and filter replacement

  • A pump that screams, grinds or trips the breaker
  • Electric bills that jump every summer
  • A filter that needs cleaning every week and still leaves the water hazy

  • Equipment that has been repaired three times this year

How it works

Our pool pump and filter replacement process, step by step

Timing. Pump failures cluster in early summer, when run times go up. Replacing a failing pump in spring avoids a green pool in June.

  1. 01

    Confirm it needs replacing

We diagnose first. A seal or capacitor is a repair, not a new pump.

  2. 02

    Size and select

Pump and filter chosen for your pool volume, plumbing and features, with options and prices side by side.

  3. 03

    Install

Old equipment removed, new equipment plumbed and wired, and the system primed and run.

  4. 04

    Program and explain

Run schedules set for the season, and you are shown what the settings mean.

How it is priced

How pool pump and filter replacement is priced

A written price, before work starts

A variable-speed pump or a replacement filter is priced installed. Brand, size and the amount of plumbing that needs redoing move the number. Where a pump is eligible for a utility rebate, we point you to it.

We look at the pool first, then give you a written price. Nothing starts until you have agreed to it.

  • Free estimates

We come out, look at the pool and give you a written price. No charge and no obligation.

  • Owner-supervised

Owner Brian supervises each project. You can reach the people who run the company, not a call centre.

  • Honest about the fix

We diagnose before we sell, and tell you when something is a simple fix you could do yourself.

  • BBB A+ since 2003

Accredited by the Better Business Bureau for more than twenty years, and family-owned since 1982.

Excellent service from Aloha Swimming Pools. Got a pretty reasonable quote on replacing my old pool pump. Gave me a really good run down on switching to a variable speed pump from my old noisy single speed pump. It saved me a fair bit on my electric bill over the past few months and is much quieter too. Also had some general maintenance taken care of. Very happy with the consistent service and communication!

August 2019

I was in need of a new pool heater, booster pump, pressure side cleaner, and control board for a roughly 20 year old pool. Brian was very quick to respond to my online inquiry, and was onsite the next day. He was incredibly knowledgeable and did not over sell me on my needs. Finished project was new 400k BTU Heater, 3/4 Hp Booster Pump, Racer LS Pressure side cleaner, and new iQ2.0 upgrade to my Jandy controls. From onsite consultation to all equipment installed was less than a week. Pool/Spa are ready for winter swimming. Spa nights to rest sore muscles and enjoy a recovery drink is back on the agenda. Pool is crystal clean with new cleaner, and best part....I can control it all from my cell phone or tablets. Highly recommend giving Brian and his team a call for your next pool needs.

Common questions about pool pump and filter replacement

Something not answered here? Call (832) 528-4979 — we would rather talk it through than have you guess.

Is a variable-speed pool pump worth it in Houston?

For most pools, yes. Pump energy use drops sharply at lower speeds, and a Houston pool runs its pump for many hours a day for much of the year, which is exactly where the savings add up. A single-speed pump running full speed all summer is one of the more expensive appliances in the house. The payback depends on your electricity rate and run time, and we will estimate it for your pool before you decide.

How do I know if my pool pump needs replacing?

Loud grinding or screeching bearings, a motor that hums but will not start, repeated breaker trips, or a pump that has been repaired more than once in a season are the usual signs. Age matters too: a single-speed pump over ten years old is a replacement candidate even before it fails. Air in the basket or weak flow, on the other hand, is often a leak or a clog rather than the pump itself.

Which filter is best: cartridge, sand or DE?

Cartridge filters are the most common on North Houston pools: good clarity, no backwashing and moderate maintenance. Sand is the simplest and cheapest but filters less finely. DE gives the clearest water but needs more handling. Pools under heavy tree cover do well with a large cartridge filter. We recommend based on your pool rather than on a favourite.

How long does pump or filter replacement take?

Most straightforward swaps are done in a single visit of a few hours. If the plumbing at the pad needs rework, or the electrical supply needs updating for the new pump, it can take longer. We tell you that in the quote rather than on the day. The pool is usually back running the same day.
