What is included

What is included in our pool tile and coping repair

Tile and coping are the edge of the pool — the band you see at the waterline and the stone or concrete cap you sit on. They date a pool faster than anything else, and in North Houston they take a beating: summer heat expands them, clay soils move the deck against them, and hard water leaves calcium on the tile. We repair loose and cracked pieces, replace whole runs, and upgrade to materials that look current and stand up to the weather here.

Waterline tile and coping repaired, replaced or upgraded — the detail that dates a pool fastest.

  • Loose and cracked tile

Missing, hollow or cracked waterline tiles reset or replaced before water gets behind them and loosens the rest.

  • Full waterline tile replacement

Porcelain, glass and stone waterline tile, set properly with a bond that suits the pool.

  • Coping repair

Loose, rocking or cracked coping stones reset. Left alone, they let water under the deck and become a trip hazard.

  • Coping replacement

Brick, travertine, flagstone and cast stone coping — chosen for how it looks and how hot it gets under bare feet in August.

  • The joint between deck and coping

The expansion joint where the deck meets the coping is where clay-soil movement shows first. We replace failed joints so water stays out.

  • Timed with other work

Replacing tile and coping at the same time as a replaster saves draining and repair costs twice.

How it works

Our pool tile and coping repair process, step by step

Timing. Tile and coping work pairs naturally with replastering in late winter and spring, when the pool is being drained anyway.

  1. 01

    Inspect the edge

We tap-test tile and coping for hollow spots and look at the deck joint to find why it failed, not just what failed.

  2. 02

    Choose materials

Samples in hand, with honest notes on price, heat underfoot and how each holds up.

  3. 03

    Remove and prepare

Old tile or coping removed, the beam cleaned and repaired so the new material has a sound base.

  4. 04

    Set and grout

New tile and coping set and grouted, and the deck joint sealed.

How it is priced

How pool tile and coping repair is priced

A written price, before work starts

Repairs to a few loose tiles or coping stones are small jobs. Replacing the full waterline tile band, or all the coping, is priced by the linear foot and by material — glass tile and natural stone cost more than standard porcelain or brick. Doing both together, especially during a replaster, costs less than doing them separately.

We look at the pool first, then give you a written price. Nothing starts until you have agreed to it.

  • Free estimates

We come out, look at the pool and give you a written price. No charge and no obligation.

  • Owner-supervised

Owner Brian supervises each project. You can reach the people who run the company, not a call centre.

  • Honest about the fix

We diagnose before we sell, and tell you when something is a simple fix you could do yourself.

  • BBB A+ since 2003

Accredited by the Better Business Bureau for more than twenty years, and family-owned since 1982.

Common questions about pool tile and coping repair

Something not answered here? Call (832) 528-4979 — we would rather talk it through than have you guess.

Why do my pool tiles keep falling off?

Usually because water has got behind them. Once a grout line or a single tile fails, water works into the bond, and in our heat-and-freeze cycles it loosens the neighbouring tiles too. Sometimes the cause is deck movement pushing on the tile band from behind. Resetting the fallen tiles without dealing with the cause means more will follow, so we look for the cause first.

What is the best coping for a Houston pool?

For comfort, lighter-coloured travertine and cast stone stay cooler under bare feet than dark brick or flagstone in a Houston August. For durability, all of them work if they are properly set on a sound beam. Brick suits many traditional North Houston homes and matches existing patios. We bring samples so you can feel the surface and see the colour in daylight.

Can you replace just the tile without replastering?

Yes. Waterline tile can be replaced with the water lowered below the tile line rather than fully drained, which keeps cost and downtime down. If your plaster is also near the end of its life, though, doing both together is cheaper overall, so we will tell you honestly how long the current finish has left.

Is a gap between my deck and coping a problem?

It can be. That joint is meant to flex, but when the sealant fails, water gets under the deck and behind the coping, which can loosen the coping and tile and, over time, affect the deck. In our expansive clay soils it is one of the first places movement shows. Resealing it is inexpensive; letting it go usually is not.
