The neighbourhoods built along Kuykendahl, Louetta and Champion Forest Drive in the 1970s and 1980s put pools in thousands of backyards, and many of those pools are now on their third or fourth decade.

Champions Forest, Northgate Forest, Olde Oaks, Wimbledon Champions and Memorial Northwest are established neighbourhoods with mature trees and pools built when Klein was still largely rural. Many have original shells with plaster that has been patched rather than replaced, coping that has moved with the clay, and equipment pads that have collected twenty years of replacement parts. Klein has no city of its own — it is unincorporated and named for the school district — so our customers here have Spring or Houston addresses but think of themselves as Klein.

Klein is unincorporated — the name comes from Klein ISD and the community’s German founders, not a city government. Homes here have Spring or Houston mailing addresses in ZIPs like 77379, 77069 and 77070. For us it makes no difference: if you are in Klein, you are one of our closest customers.

Why do so many Klein pools need replastering at the same time?

Because so many were built in the same era. Neighbourhoods along Kuykendahl and Champion Forest were developed within a few years of each other, and their pools have aged together. Plaster that went in during the 1980s or was last redone in the early 2000s is now rough, stained or hollow in places. We see a lot of neighbours calling us one after another.

Does Klein’s clay soil affect pools?

Yes. Clay expands when it is wet and shrinks during drought, and pools sit in the middle of that movement. It shows up as cracks in the deck, gaps at the coping joint, loose tiles and, sometimes, cracked underground plumbing that leads to leaks. Keeping the deck joints sealed and fixing small leaks promptly limits the damage.
