What is included

What is included in our pool automation

Pool automation puts the pump, heater, lights, spa and water features on one controller you can run from a panel or your phone. In Houston the feature that earns its keep is freeze protection: when the air temperature drops toward freezing, the system starts the pump by itself, and keeps water moving through the pipes until it warms up. The rest is convenience — the spa warming on your drive home, lights on at sunset, the pump running slowly overnight. We install systems, and we reprogram existing ones that were never set up properly, which is more common than you would think.

Pumps, lights, heaters and water features on one controller — with freeze protection built in.

  • One controller

Pump speeds, heater, lights, spa jets, valves and water features on a single panel and app.

  • Freeze protection

Temperature sensing that starts circulation automatically before pipes can freeze — the single most important setting for a Houston winter.

  • Schedules

Pump run times, lighting and features set by season, so the pool runs efficiently without anyone touching it.

  • Reprogramming

Controllers that lost their settings, were never set up, or need new features added. One reviewer thanked us for reprogramming theirs for new water-feature effects.

  • Spa control

Switch from pool to spa, heat it and turn on the jets from your phone.

Why people call us

Signs you need pool automation

  • Walking to the pad to switch between pool and spa
  • A controller showing wrong times or ignoring its schedule
  • Worry about pipes freezing when you are away
  • Water features and lights that nobody knows how to run
  • A pump running full speed all day because nobody set the schedule

How it works

Our pool automation process, step by step

Raised spa lit blue at dusk with lake water and trees behind

Timing. Autumn is the time to install or check automation, so freeze protection is in place and tested before the first cold front.

  1. 01

    See what you have

We look at your pad and the equipment already there, because much of it can usually be connected.

  2. 02

    Design the control

Which equipment, which valves and which features go on the system, and what it costs.

  3. 03

    Install and wire

Controller, relays, actuators and sensors installed and connected.

  4. 04

    Program and teach

Schedules and freeze protection set, the app connected, and you shown how to use it.

How it is priced

How pool automation is priced

A written price, before work starts

A basic controller for a pool with a pump and lights is the simplest install. Adding valve actuators for pool-and-spa combinations, heater control and water features moves it up. Reprogramming an existing controller is a service call rather than an install.

We look at the pool first, then give you a written price. Nothing starts until you have agreed to it.

  • Free estimates

We come out, look at the pool and give you a written price. No charge and no obligation.

  • Owner-supervised

Owner Brian supervises each project. You can reach the people who run the company, not a call centre.

  • Honest about the fix

We diagnose before we sell, and tell you when something is a simple fix you could do yourself.

  • BBB A+ since 2003

Accredited by the Better Business Bureau for more than twenty years, and family-owned since 1982.

February 2026

With the Christmas holiday a few weeks away, we had our Spa/Hot Tub relay and some other equipment fail. I talked through our options with Brian and decided that we would go with a full automation system to replace what we had, a new heater, and LED lighting. I had been putting it off but now was the right time. The quote was very reasonable and Brian, Chris and Greg were able to get the work done the next week. Everything works great now and our family really enjoyed the new lighting. I highly recommend Aloha Swimming Pools!

Bought new house near Tupelo Park Jan 2025, Brian has been helping me with pool issues since I moved in. New pump, new chlorinate, new robo vacuum, fixed various leaks, repaired broken valve piece, and helped me reprogram my controller for new pool affects with the water features. Half of this stuff he did for me while I was on vacation and threw in a pool cleaning too too. 5-stars for sure. Super responsive, delivers what he says he will.

August 2019

I was in need of a new pool heater, booster pump, pressure side cleaner, and control board for a roughly 20 year old pool. Brian was very quick to respond to my online inquiry, and was onsite the next day. He was incredibly knowledgeable and did not over sell me on my needs. Finished project was new 400k BTU Heater, 3/4 Hp Booster Pump, Racer LS Pressure side cleaner, and new iQ2.0 upgrade to my Jandy controls. From onsite consultation to all equipment installed was less than a week. Pool/Spa are ready for winter swimming. Spa nights to rest sore muscles and enjoy a recovery drink is back on the agenda. Pool is crystal clean with new cleaner, and best part....I can control it all from my cell phone or tablets. Highly recommend giving Brian and his team a call for your next pool needs.

Common questions about pool automation

Something not answered here? Call (832) 528-4979 — we would rather talk it through than have you guess.

What does pool automation freeze protection actually do?

An air temperature sensor watches for cold, and when it drops to a set point just above freezing the controller starts the pump and keeps water moving through the plumbing and equipment. Moving water is far less likely to freeze than still water in a pipe. It only works if the power is on and the setting is enabled, which is why we check it every autumn. Our freeze protection page covers what to do if the power goes out.

Can automation be added to my existing equipment?

Usually, yes. Most pumps, heaters and lights from the major brands can be connected to a modern controller, sometimes with a relay or adaptor. Variable-speed pumps and valve actuators get the most out of it. We check compatibility before recommending anything, so you are not sold a system that cannot talk to half your pad.

Can I control my pool from my phone?

Most current automation systems come with an app that lets you switch equipment, change pump speeds, run the lights and heat the spa from anywhere. You need a reliable Wi-Fi signal at the equipment pad or a way to extend it. We check that during the visit. Some systems also send alerts when something goes wrong.

My automation controller stopped following its schedule. Is it broken?

Often not. Controllers lose their settings after power cuts, firmware updates or a failed backup battery, and sometimes they were never programmed properly in the first place. Reprogramming is a straightforward service call. If a component has failed, we find which one before suggesting a replacement.
