Pool Resurfacing & Replastering in North Houston

North Houston has more ageing pool finishes than anywhere else we work. The Champions area, Northgate Forest, Ponderosa Forest and Kleinbrook were built largely in the 1970s and 1980s, and their pools have been through two, three or four finishes since.

What we see in North Houston

Common pool resurfacing problems in North Houston

By now many are rough, stained or patched, and some have been plastered over failing layers. Heavy clay adds cracks from decades of seasonal movement. A good replaster here starts with honest prep — removing unsound layers, repairing cracks and hollow spots — and pairs well with new tile and coping, since many pools still have their original tile band. We take the time the prep needs, and owner Brian supervises the work.

  • Multiple old layers and patches on 1970s–80s pools
  • Cracks from decades of clay movement
  • Original tile bands that make a new finish look mismatched
  • Stains from years of imperfect chemistry
  • Hollow areas on steps and benches

A local tip

In North Houston, have leaks checked before replastering. Many older pools have a small leak at a fitting or light niche, and it is far easier to fix with the pool already empty than after the new finish is in.

A written price, before work starts

Older North Houston pools often need more prep, which adds to the price. Replacing tile at the same time costs more but avoids draining twice.

Local questions

Pool resurfacing questions from North Houston pool owners

General questions are on the service page. These are the ones that come up in North Houston.

Is my old Champions-area pool worth replastering?

In most cases, yes. The shells in these neighbourhoods are generally sound; it is the finish that wears out. Replastering costs a fraction of building a new pool, and with proper prep, the result can last well over a decade.

Why check for leaks before replastering?

Because the pool is empty and the fittings are exposed. Older North Houston pools often have leaks at fittings and light niches, and fixing them during a replaster is simple. Fixing them after means lowering or draining the pool again.

Should I change the finish colour on an older pool?

Many owners do. Moving from white plaster to a quartz or pebble finish changes the water colour and hides staining. We bring samples and show you how each looks in water.

Will a new finish hide the cracks in my North Houston pool?

Not if they are structural. Surface cracks in old plaster disappear under a new finish once they are opened up and repaired. Cracks caused by movement in the shell can come back through the new surface unless the movement is addressed. We tell you which kind your North Houston pool has before quoting.
